NEWS & TIPS FOR MARCH 2022

These beautiful late summer days make it hard to see how much sorrow has befallen the world. We can only hope that at some point the people that have the power will ultimately choose to do the right thing. In the meantime we will do what we can to show our support for those suffering right now by contributing 5% of our online grass seed sales for the month of March to help those affected by the Ukranian war.

This summer has been fantastically fine but also fantastically dry and my garden is much the worse for it – so now is the time to start picking the last of the summer harvest and prepare for some autumn planting. Up here in the north it's still very warm but the scorching heat has passed, so what you plant now will grow very quickly provided you keep everything well watered. A bit of shade cloth wouldn’t go astray either. Things you can plant now - cucumbers, tomatoes, beetroot, carrots, lettuce and herbs. It’s still a tad early up here in the north for broad beans and the brassicas but those of you that live in a cooler climate should be fine.

This month we are running a special on the Weston Milling range of chook food. Both the Chooks Choice and Chook Grow have 10% off the normal price (Usually $23.50, now $21.15). These are great products so if you haven’t tried them yet, buy a bag for the chooks and see what they think!

I’ll bet the lawn is starting to look a bit worse for wear. Summertime is always hard on our lawns - so now is a good time to start thinking about what you might want to do; resow, over-sow or refresh. Have a think about whether your existing lawn is suitable for your location and lifestyle. You might want a beautifully manicured English style lawn - but do you have the time and inclination and is it the best fit for your local climate? Have a look at the range of seeds we have online and if you are stuck, you can always contact John on john@newtonseeds.co.nz who will be happy to point you in the right direction.

With Omicron taking out large numbers of workers around the country, supplies of different goods have been temporarily interrupted. However right now we have got our most important products in good supply so don’t delay and order today, as the delays with couriers might mean it could take awhile to get to you!
